Can my company set up a corporate account for billing?

Do you take credit cards?

We do but we have a standard 5% surcharge to cover credit card fees.

Can I retake the fingerprints at no additional cost, if it is rejected?

If you had your fingerprints taken by A1 Live Scan & Notary Services & your prints were rejected by the CA DOJ or FBI, there will be no additional charge for retaking your print at our office.

If you had your fingerprints taken by another Live Scan facility, A1 Live Scan’s standard rolling fee of $33.00 will apply. There will be no additional Agency Fees charged for resubmissions.

In either case, you must bring your rejection letter & new livescan request form sent to you by the DOJ.

How much does your mobile service cost?

It varies on a number of factors and is largely based on type of service, distance travelled, urgency of the service and our current booking schedule. Please call 213-489-4559 and speak to our mobile services division to get a price quote.

Do you offer Mobile Services?

Yes, we do offer mobile live scan, mobile notary public and mobile passport photo services. Further details can be obtained on the “Mobile Services” page on our web site.

Where can I get the Live Scan request form?

Usually the requesting agency or your employer will provide you with the appropriate live scan request form which will indicate the level of service needed – FBI or DOJ. If you do not have an employer and just want to check the results of your own criminal background, we have the necessary form for you to complete.

What is a Live Scan Request Form?

The Live Scan Request Form is a form issued by the requesting agency/employer for Live Scan Fingerprinting. The form has information required to send an applicant’s background check to the appropriate requesting agency/employer.

What is “Live Scan” Fingerprinting?

“Live Scan” Fingerprinting is an automated background check process that requires digitized fingerprints used by the California Department of Justice (DOJ).

Starting on January 1, 2000, DOJ requires that fingerprints be submitted by Live Scan rather than hard copy fingerprint cards. The electronic capture of fingerprints enables the transfer of the fingerprint images along with personal descriptor information to computers at the DOJ within minutes. The goal of the DOJ is to process 95% of the digitized fingerprints within 3 days.

Why do I have to be fingerprinted again if I’ve already been fingerprinted recently?

Per California Department of Justice policy the sharing of criminal history amongst different requesting agencies is not permitted, Furthermore, the level of service requested for any given job/license/permit differ in terms of level of service required i.e. DOJ & FBI.

How can I check on the status of Applicant Background Check Status

You can check your Applicant Background Check Status by going to the following website. https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov

You will need the following information when you call to You will need the following information when you go to the https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov website: (1) your date of birth; and (2) the 10-digit Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number that appears at the bottom of the Dept. of Justice form requesting Live Scan fingerprint background checks. The ATI number always appears in the following sequence: 1  LETTER; 3 NUMBERS; 3 LETTERS and 3 NUMBERS.

What is an ORI #?

This is a code that will be provided to you by the requesting agency & that insures that the CA Dept. of Justice will transmit your results to your requesting agency.

How long does it take to get the results?

Results will be sent to the requesting agency by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in as little as 3 days. However, delays may occur for a variety of reasons and the DOJ will contact the requesting agency directly if significant delays will occur.

Please contact your requesting agency directly for the status of your background check.

How long does it take to roll my fingerprints?

On average 15 minutes, if there are no applicants ahead of you.

What do you need to bring with you?

Valid Photo ID / Completed Live Scan Request Form / Cash – Please call for fees.

Record Review

What if I don’t want to send the results to an employer?

If you would like to obtain fingerprint results for your own use, you must ask for a Record Review. Both the California Department of Justice & the FBI offer this service. Results are mailed directly to your address.

Can I check on my own background & have results sent directly to me?

Yes, you can. This is called “Record Review”.
