If you’ve ever been asked to get fingerprinted for a background check, you’ve probably seen two options: Live Scan and Ink Card fingerprinting. But what’s the difference — and which one do you actually need?
At A1 Live Scan & Notary Services, we offer both. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the right one.
Live Scan is an electronic fingerprinting process used for background checks submitted directly to the California DOJ, FBI, or other agencies.
Instead of ink, your fingerprints are captured digitally using a Live Scan machine and securely transmitted to the requesting agency.
Best for:
A1 Live Scan is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to process Florida applicants right here in California!
Ink card fingerprinting uses traditional black ink on an FD-258 card (or other agency-specific forms). These cards are then mailed to the agency or organization requesting your background check.
Best for:
A1 Live Scan uses professional-grade cards and clean techniques to ensure your ink fingerprints are sharp, smudge-free, and accepted.
| Purpose | Recommended Method |
